Screening of Eggplant Vars./lines to Bacterial Wilt

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Immune source to Ralstonia solanacearum among the tested accessions of brinjal were not available but three cultivars namely EG 203, BL-009 and 31 x 13 were found resistant. Five lines namely; Mixture, BL-SA-200, ISD-006, 30x13 and 30 x 15 showed moderately resistant reaction. Rest of the lines showed moderate to highly susceptible reactions.

Objectives:

To find out the resistance source of eggplant under artificial epiphytic conditions against bacterial witlt.

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted with 43 brinjal lines in artificially inoculatted sick bed in 2002-2003 cropping seasons to find out the resistance source of eggplant under artificial epiphytic conditions against bacterial witlt. The sick bed was established by inoculating the soil with a mixture of Ralstonia solanacearum isolates, collected from brinjal field of different regions of Bangladesh. The population density of the bacteria in the bed prior to set up the experiments was estimated about 2.1 x 108 cfu/ml of water by dilution plate method. Complete randomized design was followed with four replications. There were 10 plants/replication. Three-week-old seedlings were transplanted at 30 cm distance from row to row and 20 cm from plant to plant. Wilted plants were counted periodically and converted to percent wilt. The disease reaction of the lines was graded based on a standard scale.
