Development of Breeding Materials of Mesta Through Intraspecific Hybridization

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The experiment was showed a wide range of variation in respect of maturity, plant height, base diameter, growth habit, disease tolerance and smoothness. Ten promising lines were selected in respect of earliness, smoothness, growth habit and other attributes.

Achievement/Findings:

Progenies of 6 cross combinations involving prickled, recommended variety HS-24, smooth fibre type SAMU’93, smooth vegetable type PI-274245 and early maturing and smooth type 2065 were sown in the field at Manikganj station during the year 2012 having 2 lines of 3m long row for each treatment. A wide range of variation in respect of maturity, plant height, base diameter, growth habit, disease tolerance and smoothness were observed. Ten promising lines were selected in respect of earliness, smoothness, growth habit and other attributes.
