Objectives:

To select short duration, high yielding, disease (Powdery mildew, Wilt) resistant/tolerant field pea and garden pea variety suitable for relay cropping in the T. aman + pea – boro rice cropping pattern.

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted at Pulses Research Centre, Ishurdi, Pabna, Regional Agricultural Research Station, Jamalpur and BARI, Joydebpur, Gazipur during rabi 2011-2012 to select short duration, high yielding, disease (Powdery mildew, Wilt) resistant/tolerant field pea and garden pea variety suitable for relay cropping in the aman + pea – boro rice cropping pattern. A total of seven pea varieties ( BARI Motorshuti-1,BARI Motorshuti-3,IPSA Motorshuti -1,IPSA Motorshuti -2,IPSA Motorshuti -3,Jhikorgacha local and Natore local) for Ishurdi and five pea varieties for Jamalpur and Joydebpur were included as a treatment. Unit plot size was 5m × 4m. Seeds were sown on 2 November, 2011 at Ishurdi, 29 October, 2011 at Jamalpur and 15 November at Joydebpur in Broadcast method before 10 days of T.aman harvest as relay crop T.aman was harvested retaining 30 cm straw height from ground level. No weeding was done during the whole crop growing period. Pods were harvested at different dated on the basis of pod maturity as a green pod and last harvest was 7 February, 2012. Ten plants were selected randomly from each plot before harvest of crop to record data on yield attributes while Pod yield was collected on the whole plot basis at different day’s interval when bearing pod was matured as a green pod. Collected data were analyzed statistically and mean separation was done as per LSD test at 5% level of significance.

Achievement/Findings:

It was found that, the variety Natore local as well as Jhikorgachha local may be recommended for extensive cultivation as a relay crop with T.aman-boro cropping pattern because of its high sustained capacity in normal moisture and unfilled condition.
