Characterization of Hibiscus Acetosella and Hibiscus Diversifolius Germplasm.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

An experiment was conducted at JAES, Manikganj in 2010 to characterize of eighteen accessions of Hibiscus acetosella and H. diversifolius germplasm collected from different sources were sown on 15 March, 2010 along with the check varieties HC-95 and HS-24. The experiment was sown in a mini plot of 3 meter length of 5 rows for each accession. Row to row distance was 30 and plant to plant distance was 5-6 cm in rows. The unit plot size was 3m x 1.2 m for each accession and plot to plot distance was 1 meter. Pigmentation data were collected at 60 days after sowing. Plants were harvested at 120 days after sowing and post harvest data were collected. The accessions were characterized for their morph-agronomic attributes as per Hibiscus descriptor. Based on the major yield contributing characters viz. technical height, leaf angle, leaf length, leaf width, petiole length, node number, base diameter of stem, middle diameter of stem, top diameter of stem, core diameter, dry fibre weight and dry stick weight accessions 3805, 4355, 4300, 4360 and 4778 were found better than other accessions and these accessions can be selected for further study.

Objectives:

Methodology:

The experiment was sown in a mini plot of 3 meter length of 5 rows for each accession. Row to row distance was 30 and plant to plant distance was 5-6 cm in rows. The unit plot size was 3m x 1.2 m for each accession and plot to plot distance was 1 meter. The accessions were sown with check varieties HC-95 and HS-24. Other standard cultural and intercultural practices were followed. Pigmentation data were collected at 60 days after sowing. Plants were harvested at 120 days after sowing and post harvest data were collected. Eighteen accession viz. 4114, 4134, 4206, 4293, 4300, 4354, 4355, 4356, 4360, 4773, 4775, 4914, 4987, 4989, 4990, 4991, 3805 and 4778 were characterized.
