The experiment was conducted at Central Station, Dhaka in 1994. Thirty eight accessions of indigenous tossa jute germplasm collected from different sources along with check varieties O-9897 and O-4 were sown on 14 April, 1994. The materials under study were 2330, 3060, 2585, 2419, 3088, 2397, 2499, 2312, 2746, 2670, 2483, 2429, 2316, 3486, 3432, 3491, 2441, 3130, 3669, 3263, 2653, 2407, 2516, 3430, 3415, 2514, 2661, 2550, 2633, 3043, 2622, 3499, 2563, 2102, 2411, 3036, 3277and 3177. The unit plot size for each accession was 5 rows of 3 m length, spacing 30 cm between rows and 5-7 cm between plants and 1 m between plots. Standard cultural practices were followed. Pigmentation data on stem colour, leaf colour, vain colour, petiole colour, stipule colour, bud colour, and fruit colour were collected at 60 days after sowing. Plants were harvested at 120 days after sowing and post harvest data on plant height, node number, base diameter of stem, middle diameter of stem, top diameter of stem, core diameter, dry fibre weight and dry stick weight were collected. The data were analyzed following standard statistical procedure.
