Selection of F8 Progenies of White Jute 2007

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

To select superior progenies with desired characters, an intravarietal hybridization was made between selected breeding lines of white jute during 1997-98 and following subsequent selection procedure 20 lines were isolated on the basis of desirable agronomic traits. each treatment (progeny) was sown in 3 meter long row with 30cmbetween rows. CVL-1 was used as a check variety. For further studies these 20 F8 progenies were grown at JAES, Manikganj in 2007. The results of the experiment found that 13 progenies gave higher fibre yield (10-12 g/plant) than the check variety CVL-1 9.50g/plant).

To select superior progenies with desired characters, an intravarietal hybridization was made between selected breeding lines of white jute during 1997-98 and following subsequent selection procedure 20 lines were isolated on the basis of desirable agronomic traits. each treatment (progeny) was sown in 3 meter long row with 30cm between rows. CVL-1 was used as a check variety. Standard agronomic practices were followed for uniform growth of population. Five plants were randomly selected from each treatment at the age of 120 days after sowing.Plant height, base diameter, green weight,stick weight and fibre weight were recorded.
