Under this experiment, F2 segregating generation of eight cross combinations viz. Accs. 2134 x 1513, Accs. 898 x 1513, Accs. 4615 x 864, Accs. 3917 x 1513, Accs. 2134 x 864, Accs. 2394 x 864, Accs. 4615 x 1513 and Accs. 4683 x 1513 were raised in the BJRI adjacent field on 11.04.07 and desirable plant types were selected based on growth habit and other yield contributing characters.

To develop breeding lines which is

a) photo and thermo insensitive especially allowing more flexible of sowing and harvesting time with optimum biomass formation

b) tolerance to problem soil

c) superior quality of fibre producing characteristics for diversified and their uses.

F2 segregating generation of eight cross combinations viz. Accs. 2134 x 1513, Accs. 898 x 1513, Accs. 4615 x 864, Accs. 3917 x 1513, Accs. 2134 x 864, Accs. 2394 x 864, Accs. 4615 x 1513 and Accs. 4683 x 1513 were raised in the BJRI adjacent field on 11.04.07. Data were recorded on date of sowing, emergence, first and average flowering, oservation of disease, pest, morphological characters like pigmentation, leaf shape and other distinguished characters. Desirable plant types were selected based on growth habit and other yield contributing characters.
