The abundance and incidence pattern of different hemipteran bugs in seed bed, rice, ratoon and grasses were studied at BRRI farm, Gazipur during Aus and T. aman 2003 and Boro 2004 season and thirteen species of rice bugs were identified in different habitats. Both the rice bug species (L. acuta and L. oratorius) were found higher in ratoons in three rice growing seasons.

To observe the incidence pattern of of rice bug and related species at BRRI farm

The abundance and incidence pattern of different hemipteran bugs in seed bed, rice, ratoon and grasses were studied at BRRI farm, Gazipur during Aus and T. aman 2003 and Boro 2004 season. Weekly sampling (100 complete sweeps) was made from each habitat. The collected bugs were identified and the numbers were recorded.

Among the 13 identified species, seven species were recorded from rice, five only from ratoon and the rest from different habitats. Population of bugs was comparatively higher in Aus season. Among the bugs Pygomenida bengalensis was found in all the habitats. Transplanted Boro rice and Aus rice had the maximum number of P. bengalensis. Between two species of rice bug, Leptocorisa oratorius was found in higher number in ratoon followed by T. rice in Aus season. Ratoon rice harboured a major portion of the bug species in all the season.
