Effect of Bio-pesticide Keyunmycin Against Stemphylium Blight Disease in Lentil

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The experiment was carried out to evaluate a bio-pesticide Keyunmycin against stemphylium blight disease of lentil caused by Stemphylium botryosum. The investigation was designed in RCB with three replications. The minimum disease score (1.0) was recorded from Keyunmycin @ 2.25 ml L^-1 and Rovral treated plots and the highest (2.00) was found in control plot. Among the three doses of Keyunmycin higher (@2.25%) dose gave the best performance on number of pods plant^-1 (63.33) and grain yield (1174.33 kg ha^-1).

Objectives:

To find out the efficacy of a bio-pesticide against stemphylium blight disease of lentil.

Methodology:

The experiment was carried out in the field of Plant Pathology Division, Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI), Joydebpur, Gazipur during 2012-13. The experiment was carried out in randomized completely block design (RBD) having three replications. The treatments were applied to the plots in a random selection in each block. The plot size was 3 × 2 m². Five treatments including control were used in this experiment viz. Keyunmycin @ 1.25 ml L^-1, Keyunmycin @ 1.75 ml L^-1, Keyunmycin @ 2.25 ml L^-1, Rovral @ 2g L^-1 and control (sterile water). BARI Moshur-1 (Utfala) seeds were used in this experiment. The lentil seeds were sown in furrows maintaining 10 cm distance to another. The furrows were covered with the soil after sowing of seeds. The line to line distance also maintained as 30 cm with continuous sowing of seeds between the lines. The experimental plots were monitored regularly to notice any symptoms of stemphylium blight disease infection. Spraying of tested materials was applied when first disease was appeared. At least three sprays were done at 10 days of interval. The disease score of stemphylium blight of lentil was recorded at 65 days after sowing following a rating scale (0-5 scale). Data on number of pods plant^-1 and yield kg ha^-1 were also recorded. The number of pods plant^-1 was counted from the average of 10 plants selected at random from the each plot. Grain yield of lentil kg ha^-1 was calculated by converting the weight of plot yield into hectare and was expressed in kg.

Achievement/Findings:

All the tested antifungal materials reduced the disease and significantly increased number. of pods plant^-1 and yield of lentil compared to control. The lowest disease score was observed in plots sprayed with Rovral 50WP and two doses (1.75 and 2.25 ml L^-1) of Keyunmycin followed by Keyunmycin @ 1.25 ml L^-1. There was no significant difference between the effect of Rovral and Keyunmycin @1.75 and 2.25 ml L^-1. The number of pods plant^-1 also influenced by the application of Keyunmycin and Rovral. The maximum pods plant^-1 was obtained from the plot sprayed with Rovral (64.00) which was statistically identical with Keyunmycin at higher doses. The minimum (51.33) no. of pods plant-1 was recorded from the Keyunmycin at lower dose which was also statistically identical to control. Seed yield of lentil was also affected by the application of Keyunmycin. Yield of lentil was considerably increased compared to control when Keyunmycin was applied with higher doses. The maximum seed yield (1177.00 kg ha^-1) was obtained from the plot treated with Rovral which was statistically identical to Keyunmycin @ 2.25 ml L^-1. Minimum (1004.33 kg ha^-1) yield was obtained from the control plot. Management of stemphylium blight disease of lentil was successfully achieved through application of bio-pesticide and chemical fungicide. The tested materials reduced the disease and noticeably increased yield of lentil in comparison to control. The lowest disease score with highest seed yield was achieved by the application of Rovral and Keyunmycin at higher doses.
