Effect of Plant Growth Regulators on Teasle Gourd (momordica Dioica Roxb) Production

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The maximum plant height (290.53cm), number of primary branches per plant (6.92), number of secondary branches per plant (17.89), node number for first flowering (8.95), days require to first flowering (52.39), length of fruit (8.50cm), girth of fruit (16.25cm), length of pedicel (16.30cm), fresh weight of fruit (32.66 g), dry matter content leaves (6.11%), yield of fruits per plot (6.69 kg) and yield of fruits per hectare (16.72 tones) and minimum abscission of flowers (16.94%), minimum fruit dropping (11.12%) was obtained from the treatment combination of 500 ppm GA₃ and 250 ppm NAA while the minimum was found from control treatment combination in all observations except flower abscission and fruit dropping.

Objectives:

1. To find out the suitable hormone with appropriate concentration for ensuring the higher yield in teasle gourd

2.To study the performance of flowering behavior in teasle gourd

3. To asses the suitable combination of hormones for maximizing the yield of teasle gorud.

Methodology:

Treatment of the experiment: The factorial Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) consisting of 2 factors with 3 replications that represented as below: Factor- A : GA₃ (3 levels) 0 ppm GA₃ : G0 450 ppm GA₃ : G₁ 500 ppm GA₃_: G₂ Factor- B: NAA (3 levels) 0 ppm NAA : N0 250 ppm NAA : N1 300 ppm NAA : N2 Data Collection: Plant height (cm) (only the main stem was considered) Number of primary branches per plant Number of secondary branches per plant Node number for flowering Days require to first flowering . Abscission of flowers (%) . Fruit dropping (%) Length of fruit Girth of fruit Fresh weight of fruit (g) Dry matter content of fruit (%) Fresh weight of leaves (g). Dry matter content of leaves (%). Yield of fruits per plot (kg) Yield of fruits per hectare (tones).

Achievement/Findings:

It may be concluded from above study, 500 ppm GA₃ and 250 ppm NAA was more effective compare to other combination for successfully production of teasle gourd.
