Effect of Plant Population and Earthing Up on the Production of Tsp Seedling Tuber in Bed.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The investigation carried out at three locations showed that maximum yield (4.93 kg/m²) was obtained from the population of 2 seedling /hill. Two times earthing-up at 35 and 55 DAS yielded higher compared to one earthing-up when combined 3 seedling /hill with two times earthing-up at 35 and 55 DAS yielded the highest.

Objectives:

To determine the optimum plant population and number of earthing up for maximising the production of seedling tubers per unit area.

Methodology:

The experiment was laid out at Joydebpur, Debigonj and Munshigonj with four plant population viz. one, two, three and all seedlings (no thinning) per hill and two types of earthing up viz. one earthing-up at 35 DAS and two earthing-up at 35 and 55 DAS. The experiment was laid out in a RCB (factorial) design with three replications. The unit bed size was 2 ×1 m. The crop received 55 kg urea, 50 kg TSP and 50 kg MP per m2. Seeds were sown on 2.12.03 at Joydebpur, 22.11.02 at Munshigonj and 28.11.03 at Debigonj at 25× 4 cm spacing with 3-4 seeds per hill. Standard cultural practices were followed to raise the crop. Thinning of seedling was done 25 DAS to maintain the population according to the treatments. The haulm was cut at 100 DAS. Tubers were harvested after 10 days of haulm cutting.
