Effect of Integrated Nutrient on the Growth and Yield of Fibre Production of the Variety O-72

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

An investigation was undertaken to evaluate the effect of integrated nutrients on the growth and yield of fibre production on the variety O-72 at Jute Agriculture Experiment Station , Manikganj .The plant height, base diameter fibre and stick yield were significantly increased in different treatments. Integration of 5 ton per hectare cowdung with half of the chemical fertilizer of RDF produced significantly highest fibre and stick yield over the treatments. With the increasing rate of organic manures incorporation pH of the soil successively decreased from 6.50 to 6.30 and the organic matter content of the soil increased from 8.3 to 12.5 over RDF soil and nutrient contents of soil was also increased and of N, P, K and S were increased upto 2.5-17.5, 8.33-33.33, 7.14 -28.57 and 8.33-25.0 percent respectively over RDF soil condition. This study clearly indicated a great prospect of integrated nutrients on the growth and yield of fibre production on the variety O-72 and enriches soil nutrient status.

Objectives:

1.To study the effectiveness of organic manures in combination with chemical fertilizers on jute productivity.

2.Manures and fertilizers effects on soil fertility.

Methodology:

The experiment was laid out in 3.0m x 3.0m size plot with one meter space between the blocks, plots and around the field by RCBD having three replications with ten selective treatments i.e., T₁ (RDF), T₂ (5ton cowdung), T₃ (5ton poultry manure), T₄ (2 ½ ton cowdung + 2 ½ ton poultry manure), T₅ (5 ton cowdung + ½ RDF), T₆(5 ton poultry manure + ½ RDF), T₇ (2 ½ ton cowdung + ½ RDF), T8 (2 ½ ton poultry manure + ½ RDF), T9 (2 ½ ton cowdung + RDF) and T₁₀ (2 ½ ton poultry manure + RDF). Cowdung and poultry manure were incorporated to the soil before 15 days of sowing as per treatment. Half amount of nitrogen and full dose of PKS from a RDF 75-10-40-20 NPKS kg/ha (Islam and Rahman, 2007) were applied at the time of sowing. Soil samples analyzed for PKS by Hunter, 1984 and nitrogen was determined by Kjeldahl method as described by Jackson, 1973. Organic carbon was determined by wet oxidation method by Walkey and Black, 1934 and the mean differences were adjusted by DMRT.
