Magnesium is one of the essential nutrient element for the growth and yield of crop. It plays a vital role in the synthesis of Chlorophyll. It has been observed that the deficiency of Mg causes reduction of yield of jute seed and fibre. Some soils of Bangladesh have already been identified that Mg is beneficial especially in the northern zone of Bangladesh. Therefore the present experiment was undertaken to find out the effect of Mg on late jute seed production. Seed yield and yield contributing characters of different olitorius varieties with different doses Mg indicated significant effect over control. Highest seed yield was obtained with RDF + 3 kg Mg/ha and the varieties tested O-72 and OM-1 produced same amount of seed yield.

To study the Mg effect on late jute seed production

The experiment was set up at split-plot design with 3 replications, fertilizer in the main plot and variety in the sub-plot. Plot size was 3.0m x 3.0m with a space of 1.0m around each plot. Three varieties were tested such as O-9897, O-72, and OM-1. The treatments were T1=RDF (control); T2= RDF + 1kg Mg/ha; T3= RDF + 2kg Mg/ha and T4= RDF + 3 kg Mg/ha.
