Standardization of Fertilizer Application of Deshi Jute Varieties for Jute Seed Production in Conventional Way

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

An experiment was conducted for standardization of fertilizer application of deshi jute varieties (Corchorus capsularis L.) for jute seed production in conventional method. A set of recommended dose of fertilizer 166-25-30-45-11kg/ha as Urea-TSP-MP-Gypsum-Zinc sulphate were applied to all the treatments. Only urea was applied as 2, 3 or 4 equal installments. The pH of the soil successfully decreased from 6.48 to 6.31 due to decomposition of jute leaves and the organic matter content of the soil increased from 3.7 to 25.93% over the initial soil condition which indicates the enrichment of soil health and NPKS were increased upto 22.73, 26.67, 40.0 and 22.73 percent respectively. A highly significant increase in number of branch per plant, capsule per plant, seed per capsule, 1000 seed weight and seed yield was obtained with three installments of urea i.e., at sowing, after 45 days of sowing and after 90 days of sowing which showed hghest benefit cost ratio.

Objectives:

To standardize of fertilizer application on deshi jute varieties for seed production in conventional method.

Methodology:

A set of recommended dose of fertilizer 166-25-30-45-11kg/ha as Urea-TSP-MP-Gypsum-Zinc sulphate (Islam and Rahman,2007) were applied to all the treatments. One installment urea, full dose of TSP, MP, Gypsum and Zinc sulphate were applied at the time of sowing. The senond, third and fourth installments of urea were applied after 45, 90 and 120 days of sowing as top dressing.Healthy seeds of Corchorus capsularis L. varieties BJC-83 and CC-45 were sown in the third week of april in each year. All the intercultural operations were done in time. When 80% capsules became brown in colour, the crop was harvested and harvesting date were october 2nd week for BJC-83 and 4th week for CC-45 respectively . The capsules and seeds were dried in the air and cooled in desiccators. The seed yield per plant was determined from the average of three years and were analyzed. Soil samples analyzed for PKS by Hunter, 1984 and nitrogen was determined by Kjeldahl method as described by Jackson, 1973. Organic carbon was determined by wet oxidation method by Walkey and Black, 1934 and the mean differences were adjusted by DMRT. The detais of the treatments were as follows: T₁(No . of equal installments:2, Days after sowing:0,45), T₂ (No . of equal installments:3, Days after sowing:0,45,90), T3(No . of equal installments:4, Days after sowing:0,40,80,120).

Achievement/Findings:

Both of the capsularis varies respond for higher seed production to urea application by three equal installments that would be a standard practice in conventional method. Same install mental method showed higher benefit cost ratio.
