There is only one rice crop grown in saline area (coastal region of Bangladesh) and rest of the period of the year, lands are remain mostly fallow. Such fallow land may bring under cultivation with proper management and appropriate technology. There is very little information about jute in saline soil. Monitoring of soil water and salinity is pre-requsite for making any crop production for coastal saline soil. So an experiment was conducted to find out a suitable variety/strain for cultivation in problem soil, especially in saline zone. Results revealed that no mesta was survived in the plt. But most of jute and kenaf germ plasm were existed in the field til maturity stage and only deshi jute accessions were survived in the field upto capsule maturity stage.

To enhance the cropping intensity in the saline area.

The experiment was designed with 38 accessions (Olitorius-1, capsularis-12, kenaf-13 and mesta-12) by three replications. Recommended dose of fertilizer was used in this experiment. The salinity range of the experimental plot was 1.30 to 1.6 mmohs/cm.
