Irrigation is one of the major contributing factors in the tea industry. For the proper growth and yield of tea, huge amount of water is applied to the tea plants every year to protect the plants from being affected with drought. On the other hand, PH and conductivity of the irrigated water may have potential impact on the tea plants. Considering this factor, a study may be conducted to determine whether the water quality is suitable for irrigation or not.

Assessment of water quality used for irrigation purpose in tea industry.

Both the surface and ground water were collected from the surrounding tea gardens. Afterwards, all the water samples were analyzed for pH and conductivity. Then it was determined which one is a good source for irrigation purpose.

The results indicated that the pH value of irrigation water of the study area varied from 5.0 to 7.5 and this range was suitable for irrigation. The range of electrical conductivity (EC) values was 28.3 to 228.0  Scm-1 and represented non saline. It was concluded that the concerned water sources were completely suitable for irrigation purpose.
