Tea is one of the most widely consumed beverages in the world and its health effect has been widely explored. It was found in comparison that price of tea sold in the Chittagong auction market in 2008 and 2009 has got no relation with biochemical qualities of tea. Still the experiment has got some interest in the tea industry and was approved to continue. Tea samples as well as the auction prices were collected in 2010 from BTRI factory and Chittagong tea auction market respectively. For example, the samples GBOP having the same quality have got different prices in different auction dates. Same relations were applicable for the other types of tea samples. However, it may be confirmed that auction prices have got no relation with the same tea having same grade and quality.

To find out the correlation with auction market price and quality of tea.

Different tea grade such as- GBOP, BOP, BOP(C), OF, Of(C), DM, PF(S), PF, CD, CD(S), CD(C) of BT2 clone and seedling were collected randomly from BTRI factory and Chittagong auction market. The quality of different tea grades was determined considering the Theaflavin (TF) & Thearubigin (TR) content of tea. The leaf quality, liquor color, infusion, was also determined. The method reported by Takeo and Oosawa with slight modification was used for the determination of TF & TR. The market price of different tea grades were also collected from the auction market. Finally, a correlation was established between the auction price and quality of tea with respect to TF: TR.
