Studies on the Physical Properties of Jute Cotton Blended Denim and 100% Cotton Denim with Respect to Its Rate of Duration.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The experiment was conducted in the Jute and Textile Product Development Center (JTPDC)of Bangladesh Jute Research Institute, during the year 2008 to 2009. We have tried to use as much as jute with cotton to produce blended yarn for denim fabric. The properties of blended denim and 100% cotton denim are closer to each other in every successive treatment. The properties have no important effect on the duration of the denim fabric. The property of blended denim has increased due to proper blending of Jute and Cotton ( due to balance blending i.e 50:50/Jute:Cotton). It is our achievement to use maximum amount of jute in denim and the properties of blended denim fabric is very nearer to the properties of 100% cotton denim fabric.

Objectives:

(i) Trail production of 100 yards Jute-Cotton blended denim and compare to the properties of 100% Cotton denim with respect to its rate of duration.

(ii)Production of Jute-Cotton blended denim and feasibility study of this product.

Methodology:

Jute fiber was stapled according to the required length of 2" by the cutting machine.Then jute fiber was softened and other chemical in the chemical modification chamber of JTPDC.The chemically modified jute fiber was washed properly and then dried. II.The dried fiber was opened properly by the opener machine so that it can be mixed with cotton uniformly. This fiber was then blend with Cotton according to the required ratio (50:50/Jute:Cotton)in the blow room.A modern blowroom with eight blending chamber was used for uniform blending of Jute and Cotton. Finally blended lap was prepared. III.After passing the lap through the carding machine, a uniform sliver of required count was produced. Blended yarn of required count (10s)was prepared. IV.Jute-Cotton blended denim was produced form the rapier loom of commercial weaving factory.100% cotton denim was collected from the market. All the test were per-formed from the commercial weaving factory and the testing department of BJRI.

Achievement/Findings:

It was found that from simple wash the properties of both fabric is nearer to each other.After desizing weft wise strength of the blended denim is lower than the 100% cotton denim fabric.But all the properties are nearer to each other.In case of enzyme, stone wash and bleach,Strength of blended denim does not reduced much more than the previous one. It is seen that all the properties of blended denim fabric are closer to the100% cotton denim fabric, except weft wise strength.Hence,blended denim fabric (50:50) at different treatment stages have shown very nearer results to the 100% cotton denim fabric with respect to its duration. The use of jute in case of denim is a new idea of the scientist. The property of the blended denim fabric has been taken nearer to the properties of 100% cotton denim fabric through subsequent treatment.
