Fungicidal Management of Stemphylium Blight of Lentil

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Fungicides with different spray schedule showed a significant interaction in controlling Stemphylium blight and yield of lentil. Among the treatments lowest disease severity of Stemphylium blight was recorded with Rovral 50 WP at 7-days interval spray schedule at Gazipur and Ishurdi, followed by Secure-600 WG. But at Jessore Rovral and Nativo at 7 days and 15 intervals spray showed the lowest disease severity and at 10 days interval Nativo again produced the lowest severity (scale 2.68) but Rovral had the score of 3. So it appears from the study that Rovral produced the lowest disease score at Ishurdi in all three spray schedule, Rovral and Secure were equally effective at Gazipur and Rovral and Nativo produced the lowest disease score at Jessore at 7 and 15 days interval but Nativo produced lowest disease score at 10 days interval followed by Rovral. So these chemicals may be used in different locations against Stemphylium blight at an interval of 7-10 days.

Objectives:

To find out the effective fungicide for controlling stemphylium blight of lentil.

Methodology:

An experiment was carried out at RARS-Jessore, PRC, Ishurdi and BARI, Gazipur to select effective fungicide with its spray schedule in controlling the disease. The experiment was conducted in a split-plot design with three replications having 3 spray schedule (spraying at 7 days interval, 10 days interval and 15 days interval from initiation of Stemphylium) in the main plots and 5 fungicides viz. Rovral 50 WP (Ipropdion) (0.2%), Secure 600 WG (Fenamidone +Mancozeb) ( 0.1%), Companion (Mancozeb) (0.2%), Indofil M-45 (Mancozeb), (0.2%), Nativo (Tebuconazole + Trifloxystobin 100) (0.2%) and control were used as subplots. A susceptible lentil variety (BARI Masur-1) was grown in the plots. The plot size was 4 m X 3m with continuous sowing of seed in lines 30cm apart. The seeds were sown in the morning of November 13, 2012. The experiment was monitored regularly to observe the appearance of the Stemphylium blight disease. Spraying of fungicides started when the disease appeared. A Stemphylium scoring scale (0–5) with 0 = no infection, 1 = a few scattered leaf infections but no twig blighted, 2 = 5–10% leaflet infection and/or a few scattered (1%) twigs blighted, 3 = 11–20% leaflet infection and/or 1–5% twigs blighted, 4 = 21–50% leaflet infection and/or 6–10% twigs blighted, and 5 = 51% leaflet infection and/or = 10% twigs blighted was used (Bakr and Ahmed,1992). The data were analysed statistically.

Achievement/Findings:

It was found that Rovral/ Nativo can be used to control Stemphylium blight in lentil at an interval of 7-10 days.
