Management of Foot and Root Rot of Lentil

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The lowest mortality (2.20%) and (41.00%) were obtained from seed treatment with Provax (2.5 g/kg seed) plus soil drenching with Provax 200 after 15 DAE in both pot and field experiment, respectively. From this study, it may be concluded that no treatment could give absolute control of the disease but seed treatment with Provax (2.5 g/kg seed) followed by soil drenching with Provax 200 reduced foot and root rot of lentil compared with other treatments.

Objectives:

To find out the optimum management packages for controlling foot and root rot diseases in lentil cultivation

Methodology:

An experiment was conducted in a sick plot at the Pulses Research Sub Station, Gazipur, Bangladesh, during 2012-13 in a RCBD with three replications. Six treatments and one control were used. The unit plot size was 2.0 m × 2 m with plant spacing of 30 cm × 5 cm. A susceptible lentil variety, BARI Masur1, was used. The experiment was sown on December 10, 2012. Insecticide (Malathion @ 0.1%) and fungicide (Rovral 50 WP at 0.2%) were sprayed when aphid infestation and Stemphylium blight disease were observed, respectively. During the growing period, the plots were inspected regularly to record the incidence of foot and root rot disease from seedling to maturity stage of the crop and the foot and root rot pathogens were identified in the laboratory.
