Efficacy of Fungicides in Controlling Botrytis Gray Mold of Chickpea

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The experiment was conducted at the PRC, Ishurdi, Pabna and PRSS, Gazipur during 2011-12 to find out the effective fungicides in controlling BGM of chickpea. Seven different fungicides were used as treatments following RCBD with three replications. Among the seven fungicides, three times foliar sprayed with Companion (0.2%) followed by Bavistin DF (0.2%), Secure 600WG and Acrobat MZ (0.2%) at an interval of 10 days decreased botrytis gray mold (BGM) and increased yield of chickpea for both the locations.

Objectives:

To find out the effective fungicides in controlling BGM of chickpea

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted at the Pulses Research Centre, Ishurdi, Pabna and Pulses Research Sub-Station, Joydebpur, Gazipur during 2011-12. The experiment was carried out following Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications. Seven fungicides and one control were used in this experiment at Pulses Research Centre, Ishurdi, Pabna. The fungicides were Tilt 250 EC (0.05%), Secure 600 WG (0.2%), Bavistin DF (0.2%), Companion (0.2%), Folicur 250 EC (0.1%), Score 250 EC (0.1%) and Acrobat MZ (0.2%). Seven fungicides and one control were also used at Pulses Research Sub-Station, Joydebpur, Gazipur. The fungicides were Viz-Protaf 250 EC (0.5ml/l), Bavistin (2g/l), Secure 600WG (1g/l), Score 250EC (0.5ml/l), Companion (2g/l), Acrobet MZ(2g/l) and Folicure 250 (2ml/l). The unit plot size was 2.0 m X 1.6 m and plant spacing was 30 cm x 5 cm for PRC, Ishurdi, Panba; and 3 m × 4 m and spacing was 50 cm × 10 cm for PRSS, Joydebpur, Gazipur, respectively. The susceptible chickpea variety was used BARIchola 1. Seeds were sown on November 21, 2011 at PRC, Ishurdi and November 25, 2011 at PRSS, Joydebpur, Gazipur, respectively. The experiment was monitored regularly to observe the onset of botrytis gray mold disease. Spraying of fungicides was started when the disease appeared. Total three sprays were applied at intervals of 10 days with the help of a Knapsack hand sprayer. Data were recorded on three times with a 1-9 disease scoring scale. The recorded data were analyzed statistically to find out the level of significance and the variations among the respective data were compared following Duncan’s New Multiple Range Test (DMRT).

Achievement/Findings:

It was found that three times foliar sprayed with Companion (0.2%) followed by Bavistin DF (0.2%), Secure 600WG and Acrobat MZ (0.2%) at an interval of 10 days is effective for control incidence of botrytis gray mold and increase yield of chickpea.
