BJRI Technology Transfer Through Jute Village & Jute Blocks in Some Selected Areas

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

In popularizing improved varieties of jute like O-795, O-72 & O-9897 were demonstrated in jute village and jute block in the locations of the Jute village: Bathuali and Sreerampur under Dhamrai Upazilla and Kamta village under shaturia upazilla as well as Jute Blocks: Kapasia (Gajipur), Kalkini (Madaripur), Baraigram (Natore), Ullapara (sirajganj), Kalihati (Tangail), Mymensingh, Rangpur, Faridpur, Ulipur (Kurigram), Monirampur. It was observed that the gross return of 3 varieties was Tk. 113722, Tk. 112063 & Tk. 106964 per hectare involving total variable cost Tk. 87141 Tk. 81350 & Tk. 81963 per hectare respectively. It was found the highest yield of O-795 variety (3443 kg/ha) at Baraigram, second highest yield was O-795 (3309 t/ha) and the lowest yield was found at Saturia (1593 kg/ha). The average BCR of all areas were 1.30, 1.39 & 1.30 of O-795, O-72 and O-9897 varieties respectively. So, getting the realistic benefit most of the farmer’s were impressed and satisfied with the agro-economic performance both C.olitorius varieties of Jute village & Jute blocks of different AEZ of Bangladesh.

Objectives:

i) To assess suitability of released recommended varieties and potential technologies in farmers' environment.

ii) To identify farmers' constraints for adoption of technologies and generate feed back for further development.

Methodology:

Evolved new varieties of jute seeds of BJRI will be distributed among 150 jute growers with a total area of 80 acres of land in the Jute villages of Srirampur, Nannar and Joypura under Dhamrai Upazilla of Dhaka district. MLT sites of different regional/sub-stations of BJRI, 3-5 acres of land will be taken for making Jute block involving 10-15 farmers. The program will be conducted in collaboration with respective divisions, regional/sub-stations of BJRI and local DAE office. Bench Mark survey will be conducted before implementation for the new technology transfer at farm level.

It was observed that the average yield of 3 jute varieties namely O-795, O-72 & O-9897 were 2671, 2745 and 2607 kg/ha. Gross return of 3 varieties was Tk. 113722, Tk. 112063 & Tk. 106964 per hectare involving total variable cost Tk. 87141 Tk. 81350 & Tk. 81963 per hectare respectively. Information on yield and agro-economic performance of improved jute varieties were found the highest yield of O-795 variety (3443 kg/ha) at Baraigram, second highest yield was O-795 (3309 t/ha) and the lowest yield was found at Saturia (1593 kg/ha). In case of O-9897 variety the highest yield (3063 kg/ha) was found at Rangpur followed by Baraigram (2994 kg/ha) and the lowest yield was observed at Dhamrai (1790 kg/ha). It was observed that the yields of all jute varieties were minimum at Dhamrai and Shaturia, probably it occurs the environment was not favorable for jute production because many industries and brick field establish in that areas. The average BCR of all areas were 1.30, 1.39 & 1.30 of O-795, O-72 and O-9897 varieties respectively. So, getting the realistic benefit most of the farmer’s were impressed and satisfied with the agro-economic performance both C.olitorius varieties of Jute village & Jute blocks of different AEZ of Bangladesh.
