Abstract/ Executive Summary:

In order to create variability for selection of desirable genotypes, hybridization was done at Debigonj and Joydebpur using 88 and 58 varieties, respectively under 16 hours extended photoperiod. At Joydebpur, 49 crosses and at Debigonj 99 crosses produced berries. In total 98.38 g hybrid seeds were produced of which 36.6 g was at Joydebpur and rest at Debigonj.

Objectives:

Methodology:

At Joydebpur, 58 varieties were planted on bricks followed by earthing up in non-replicated rows of 1m length on 22nd November, 2008 and at Debigonj, 88 varieties were planted in polybag method on Nov.16, 2008 in non-replicated rows of 5m long. Day length was extended up to 16 hours with the help of HP sodium lights. Stolons and tubers those formed on bricks were removed time to time to accelerate flowering. Emasculation was done one day before crossing. Berries were harvested at maturity, 7 weeks after crossing. Finally seeds were extracted, processed and stored for next year use.
