Performance of White Jute and Kenaf Varieties and Advance Lines Bjc-2142 at Farm Level in the Coastal Saline Area of Pakhimara, Patuakhali

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Experiments were conducted at the farmer’s field of different village under Nilganj union of Patuakhali district on Capsularis (cv. CVL-1, BJC-83 and BJC-2142), Kenaf (cv. HC-95). It revealed from the result that among the Capsularis cultivars CVL-1 produced the highest yield (2197 kg/ha) followed by HC-95 and the lowest (1482 kg/ha) yield was obtained from BJC-2142. Considering the yield, per hectare gross margin and BCR, CVL-1 achieved better economic return than other varieties in the area.

Objectives:

i) To impart knowledge, skills and motivate farmers to practices new variety HC-95 in their own situation.

ii) To evaluate the performance of advance line of white jute on agronomic aspect of adaptability, yield and quality.

Methodology:

Design: RCBD Replication: 5-10 (Dispersed), Plot size: 10-20 m2 Variety: CVL-1, CVE-3, BJC-83, BJC-2142 and HC-95. Sowing time: Mid March- Mid April. Seed rate: Recommended dose. Fertilizer rate: Recommended dose. Pest control: As and when necessary. Harvest time: Recommended time.

Achievement/Findings:

It revealed from the result that among the Capsularis cultivars CVL-1 produced the highest yield (2197 kg/ha) followed by HC-95 and the lowest (1482 kg/ha) yield was obtained from BJC-2142. Among the varieties per hectare cost of cultivation on variable cost basis ranged from Tk. 25650 to Tk. 31429. Considering the yield, per hectare gross margin and BCR, CVL-1 achieved better economic return than other varieties in the area.
