Performance of Improved Cropping Pattern Lentil- Jute- T.aman Against Farmers Pattern in Medium High Land at Faridpur

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Under medium high land at Faridpur Lentil- Jute- T.Aman improved pattern (FI) was tested against the farmers pattern (F) to increase the productivity and profitability of the farmers pattern through incorporation of improved varieties and management practices. Improved variety of Lentil (BRI Mashur-4), Jute (O-9897) and T.Aman (BARI Dhan-30) were used with recommended seed rate, fertilizer doses and appropriate intercultural operation in time. Gross return increased to 13.7%, 6.7% and 8.9% for Lentil, Jute and T.Aman respectively over the same crops under farmer’s management. BCR were 1.53 for Lentil, 2.26 for Jute and 1.39 for T.Aman for improved management. Overall result indicated that FI pattern had the potentiality to increase crop productivity as well as farmers income in the area.

Seed rate (kg/ha): F pattern: Farmers choice, FI/FA pattern: Jute: 7, T. Aman: 20-22, Lentil-30-35. Sowing time: F Pattern: Farmers choice, FI/FA pattern: Jute: March-April, T. Aman: July-August, Lentil: November-December. Fertilizer rate: (Urea-TSP-MP-Gypsum-Zinc Sulphate kg/ha): F pattern: Farmers choice, FI/FA pattern: Jute: 176-51-80-100-0/176-50-40-95-11, T. Aman: 135-90-50-60, Lentil: Recommended dose. Pest control: As and when necessary. Harvest time: F Pattern: Farmers choice, FI/FA pattern: Recommended time.

Improved variety of Lentil (BRI Mashur-4), Jute (O-9897) and T.Aman (BARI Dhan-30) were used with recommended seed rate, fertilizer doses and appropriate intercultural operation in time. The yield of Lentil increased to 13.7% and that of jute and T. aman to 6.7% and 8.9% respectively. Gross return increased to 13.7%, 6.7% and 8.9% for Lentil, Jute and T.Aman respectively over the same crops under farmer’s management. BCR were 1.53 for Lentil, 2.26 for Jute and 1.39 for T.Aman for improved management. The gross margin on TVC basis of Lentil, jute and T. aman were Tk. 5328, Tk. 37307 and Tk. 7198 respectively. Overall result indicated that FI pattern had the potentiality to increase crop productivity as well as farmers income in the area.
