Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The physical properties of jute fibre harvested at different stages of growth were done according to work plan. For the project it requires determination of physical properties of both Tossa and White at different stages of their growth. (i.e.), after 60 days, 70 days, 80 days 90 days, 100 days,110 days & 120 days). But this year physical properties of 2 tossa fibre of JRO-524 and O-72 of ages 120 days are determined. The Luster %, Brightness (%) and Bundle strength value of both the varieties are found almost same but fineness value (µ) of JRO-524 is higher than that of O-72 (i.e., jute fiber of O-72 variety is finer than that of JRO-524 variety.

Objectives:

To study the physical properties of jute fiber for making finer count of jute yarn and develop newer jute products for diversified uses as well as to modify the conventional products.

Methodology:

Two varieties of tossa jute namely 0-72 and JRO (Nabin)-524 harvested at the age 120 days were collected from Agricultural Wing of BJRI. Luster, bundle strength and fineness were determined by following methods. 1)Brightness (%) and Whiteness (%) Test, 2) Bundle Strength Test, 3) Fineness Test.

Achievement/Findings:

The Tossa jute fiber of variety JRO-524 and O-72 were cultivated at Agricultural Experimental Station, Jagir, Manikgonj farm. According to work plan of the project it requires to measure different physical properties of both tossa and white fiber harvested at different stages of their growth.
