On Farm Yield Trials of Advanced Lines of White Jute.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Under these experiment five advanced lines (BJC-2142, BJC-2104, BJC-298, BJC-370 and BJC-718) and four check varieties (CVE-3, CC-45, CVL-1 and O-9897) were tested at different regional stations for their yield adaptability. BJC-2104 gave higher fibre yield than CC-45 at three locations Faridpur, Kishoreganj and Chandina but at Manikganj yield was lower than CC-45. Mean weight of fibre of BJC-2104 was also higher than CC-45. BJC-2142 showed poor performance at all locations. BJC-298 showed the best response at all locations and out yielded the check CC-45, while BJC-370 showed similar response CC-45 at all locations. The response of BJC-718 was not satisfactory.

Objectives:

To release varieties with snow white fiber.

Methodology:

Five advanced lines (BJC-2142, BJC-2104, BJC-298, BJC-370 and BJC-718) and four check varieties (CVE-3, CC-45, CVL-1 and O-9897) were tested at different regional stations for their yield adaptability. There were three groups of materials in this experiment; Group A: BJC-2142, BJC-2104 and check CC-45 an early seeding photo insensitive variety and CVE-3 an early type. Group B: BJC-298, BJC-370 and check, and CVL-1, and Group C: BJC-718 and check CVL-1 of C.capsularis L. and O-9897 of C.olitorius In farmers plot two uniform plots were selected side by side. One plot was used for proposed variety and the other for control. Normal recommended dose of fertilizer were applied. Seeds of group A and B were sown in 2nd week of March and those of group C varieties in late March. The whole of each plot were considered as experimental and harvested for fibers. The harvest were made at average flowering stage for the proposed variety or at 105-110 days whichever earlier. Similar sets of experiment was conducted in regional stations for production of breeder seed. Data were recorded on dates of sowing, germination. flowering, and harvest,plant population, plant height and dry fiber weight of 20 randomly selected plants at harvest.
