Optimize the Rot Proofing Process for Jute Based Nursery Pot.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

This research work was conducted during the year 2005 to 2007 at chemical processing laboratory of Bangladesh Jute Research Institute, Dhaka to determine the longevity of the nursery pot. Jute fabrics were treated with various ratios of comsol solutions( 1:3, 1:5, 1:7, 1:9, 1:11, 1:13 ) of the rot proofing agent the treated fabric were tested to optimize the rot proofing agent to be applied on jute fabrics. Which are being used as nursery pot for seedling. Control samples is degrade quickly but the hessian treated with comsol solution increases longevity of the nursery pot. It was found that controlled jute pots loss its strength within 15 days and damages within 1 month when plantation was made in it. On the other hand comsol solution treated jute based nursery pot may not be damaged up to 9 months to 12 months.

Objectives:

To offer technological processing techniques and methods to nursery pot users for plantation of long time duration.

Methodology:

Rot proofing process: Jute fabric was collected from the local market. Six samples were desized among 12 samples. Then jute fabric treated with different ration of comsol solution viz. 1:3, 1:5, 1:7, 1:9, 1:11, 1:13 by mini padding machine and added 1-2 cc isapol, in every samples. Chemical analysis: Before preparation of the nursery the rot proof hessian cloth was evaluated by determining the copper content, liquor pickup and tensile strength. Preparing of nursery pot: The size of the nursery pot was 7 inch in length 6 inch in wide. 50 nursery pots were prepared and each of the nursery pot was measured by weight. Compost were prepared maintaining equal ratio of cow dung and soil. Seeds were shown in the nursery pot.

Achievement/Findings:

Jute is a biodegradable and environment friendly fiber. Seeds were shown in different treated nursery pot. One controlled sample and others were treated samples. The constituents of jute are degraded easily due to the attack of microorganisms and fungi when exposed in soil in wet condition. It shows that the tensile strength of controlled sample is higher in warp wise and lower in weft wise then the treated samples. The copper content in desized rot proof hessian is higher then sized rot proof hessian. Control sample is damaged very quickly.But the hessian treated with comsol solution increases longevity of the nursery pot. The longevity of the treated nursery pots up to 9 months to 12 months.
