Evaluation of Some Crossing Materials for Early Seeding, Higher Yield and Low Temperature Tolerance of White Jute.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

In this experiment, two groups of materials group A (four strains derived from diallel croses) and group B (6 irradiated strains) were grown at five locations. The results showed that in Group A: C-12221 gave higher fiber yield than the controls at four locations viz. Faridpur, Kishoreganj, Chandina and Rangpur and was slightly lower at Manikganj. C-12033, C-12038 and C-2186 also gave higher yield than the control CC-45 at all four locations. Pooled mean of fiber weight of the 4 strains C-12221, C-12033, C-12038 and C-2186 were high than both the control varieties CC-45 and CVE-3. In group B: CR-1451 showed the best response and it was better in all locations. CR-1499, CR-1500, CR-1438 and CR-1489 showed similar response with CC-45 in all locations. Response of group B was comparatively better at Manikganj.

Objectives:

To develop early sowing varieties of white jute with higher yield potential than existing cultivars.

Methodology:

In this experiment, two groups of materials group A (four strains derived from diallel croses C-12221, C-12033,C-12038, C-2186, and CVE-3 and CC-45 used as check) and group B (6 irradiated strains C-R1499, C-R1500, C-R1451, C-R1438, C-R1489 Checks CC-45, CVL-1) were grown at five locations. Seeds were sown in randomized complete block design with three replications. Data were recorded on dates of sowing, emergence, wedding, thining, first and average flowering, harvest, steeping under water and fiber extraction, application of fertilizer and insecticide. Also recorded population at final thining and harvest,average plant, base diameter, green weight, dry fiber weight and observation on pest and diseases.
