Studies on the Adaption of Knitting Technology for Diversification of Jute Product

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The adaption of knitting technology for diversification of jute product was studied. The bags weighing of 46 gm, 50 gm, 62 gm, 87 gm, 111gm and 117gm are produced to use these for shopping bag purpose. The bags weights as well as its strength are increased by using 2 ply yarns in this experiment. The knitted jute bags can be widely used and it is the best substitute in all respects e.g. strength, longevity and economy. Its initial cost is higher than polyethylene bag but this can be minimized by its long life. After all, our golden fibred will be survive by widely using this knitted jute goods.

Objectives:

To produce biodegradable and environment for the development of diversified jute product especially environment friendly jute products

Methodology:

The objective of the experiment is to develop knitted jute products as a substitute of polyethylene. So single yarn and piled (2 ply) yarns are produced in Mechanical Processing Division. In this experiment, 5 lbs/spy, 6 lbs/spy and two ply yarn of count 7.5×2= 15 lbs/spy were made. By using these yarns different knitted jute bags were made varying its weight, size and structure by 7-Gaug Vee-bed knitting machine. All the physical properties were studied in Testing and Standardization Department of Textile Physics Division.

Achievement/Findings:
