Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The experiment was carried out in the laboratory of wet processing Department of Bangladesh Jute Research Institute in 2007-2008 to determine on variation of physic o-mechanical properties in different stages of wet processing of blended yarn.Two ply of 8 lbs/spy of jute- acrylic(80:20) blended yarns were chemically treated with caustic soda solution and then bleached, dyed and softening successively. Physic o-mechanical properties of jute-acrylic (80:20) blended gray and treated with different chemicals in different stages of yarn were determined.The values of twists per inch of single yarns were increased with successively treatment of chemicals in different stages of wet processing.

Methodology:

Two plied jute-acrylic (80:20) blended yarn of 9 lbs/spy nominal count was spun. Spinning was done by using conventional jute spinning machinery. The plied yarns were successively chemically treated by maintaining the following recipes in different staged of wet processing. (1) Woollenising: Caustic soda solution-20%, Sulphuric acid-10%, (2) Bleaching: Hydrogen per oxide-10%, Silicate-6%, Soda-2%, Lisapol-0.2% (3) Dyeing: Procion Orange MX2R-2%, Soda-5gm/liter, Lisapol-0.2%, Salt (NaCl)-40gm/liter (4) Softening: Baso soft-4% The physic o-mechanical properties of jute-acrylic (80:20) blended gray and (yarn such as tensile strength count, quality ratio, loss of quality ratio and twist per inch of single and ply yarns were determined as per standard test methods.

Achievement/Findings:

It was observed that the values of quality ratio yarns were decreased gradually with treatment of chemicals in different stages of wet processing due to chemical reaction on yarns. The loss of quality ratio of woollenised (treated with caustic soda solution), bleached, dyed, softening yarns were found to be 34.81, 43.57, 45.28, 44.30% respectively but in the case of dyed and softened yarn were found near about similar results. The values of twists per inch of single yarns were increased with successively treatment of chemicals in different stages of wet processing but dyed yarn did not maintain the above order. Incase of 2 ply yarns also obeyed the same order but dyed and softened yarns did not follow that order.
