Breaking Strength Irregularity in Relation to Mass Diameter and Twist Variation for Different Counts of Yarns of Known Batch Composition at Different Test Lengths

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

To assess the Breaking Strength irregularity in relation to mass diameter and twist variation for different counts of yarns of known batch composition at different test lengths CBC and hessain yarn have been thoroughly studied during 1981 in the Physics and Testing Division at standard temperature and humidity conditions. CV% for each of the parameters under study has been found out and masses of fracture zone have also been measured. the value of the variability of braking strength and those of diameter for both CBC and hessain yarn gave almost equally good fit of straight line both in the linear scale and semi log scale graph paper. For simplicity of calculation, it is better to take the linear form, i.e. Y= AX+B as the relationship between the above two parameters for both CBC and Hessain yarn.

Objectives:

1.To collect the samples of different types and counts of yarn at random from jute Mills.

2.To determine the breaking strength, TPI, measurement of mass and diameter.

3.To calculate the CV% of each different parameters.

4.To find out the mechanical relation between the variability of braking strength and that of each of mass, diameter and twist.

Methodology:

Studies have been made upon 11 different types of CBC and 13 samples of hessain yarn of nominal count 7.75 lbs and hessian yarns of nominal counts 10 lbs. This CBC and hessian yarns were collected at random from the different spinning frames of Dacca Jute Mill and Mechanical Processing Division of BJRI respectively. Breaking Strength was determined on a constant rate of loading type Good Brand Tensile Strength Machine using a test length of 20 inches between grips and mass was calculated using electrical balance. After that a 1 inch length from the tip of each of the two broken ends in a test piece of the yarn was cut and weighed. The average weight of these two cut ends was considered to be the weight of the 1 inch length of yarn at the fracture zone of the test specimen. Diameter of the jute yarn was measured by Projectina Microscope using a lens of magnification 15. Twist was determined on a continuous twist Tester in TPI. The experiments were carried out at 65%±2% R.H. and 70±2 degree F.

Achievement/Findings:

It was found that the portion of CBC and hessian yarn other than fracture zones contain 47.9% and 75.0% more jute than those of fracture zone respectively and also the quality ratio calculated on the basis of mass at fracture zones are 47.2% and 101.5% more when calculated on actual count basis. The value of diameter and strength variation for CBC yarn gave almost equally good fit of strength line both in the linear co-ordinates and semi log graph paper. The value of diameter and strength variation for hessian yarn also gave almost equally good fit of straight line both in the linear co-ordinates and semi scale graph.
