Field experiments were conducted at Jodebpur and Jamalpur during 2001-2002 to evaluate the effect of different preceding crops on yield and fertilizer requirement for T.Aman-Mustard cropping pattern.Three crops viz. Dhaincha (S. aculetc), mungbean, T. Aus and a fallow plot were used as treatment variables replicated three in both the locations. Yields of 4.0 and 0.31 t/ha at Joydebpur and 4.3 and 0.42 t/ha at Jamalpur were obtained from T. Aus and mungbean, respectively. As green manuring crops mungbean and dhaincha produced biomass of 5.2 and 16.5 t/ha at Joydebpur, and 6.0 and 18.2 t/ha at Jamalpur, repectively. The yields of T. Aman rice were affected differently by preceding crops and N fertilizer levels. The results showed that 80 kg N/ha was required to be added for T. Aman rice when no green manuring was grown and incorporated whereas, only 40 kg N/ha was needed when dhaincha/mungbean was grown as green manuring crop. Fertilizers at the rate of 120 kg N, 80 kg P2O5, 60 kg K2O and 40 kg S/ha to be needed to grow mustard after any preceding crops or a fallow with N fertilization. There was no residual effect of green manuring on the succeeding mustard crop. Thus for mustard, fertilizer could not be reduced in both the locations.

To evaluate the effects of different preceding crops on yield and fertilizer requirement for T.Aman-Mustard cropping pattern.

Experiments were conducted at the central Research Station, Joydebpur and RARS Jamalpur during 2001-2002. The experiment was laid out in a RCB design with three replications. Three crops: dhaincha (S. aculeta), mungbean, T. Aus and a fallow plot were used as treatment variables  in both the locations. Mungbean (Kanti) received 20 kg N, 40 kg P2O5 and 30 kg k20/ha; T.Aus rice (BR 26) received 80 kg N, 60 kg P2O5 and 40 K2O /ha and dhaincha received 20 kg N, 20 kg P2O5 and 10 kg S/ha. Dhaincha was incorporated  into the soil at 45 DAS and mungbean after plucking of pods (once only). T. Aman rice was transplanted following dhaincha, T.Aus, mungbean and a fallow check with four N rates (0, 40, 80 and 120 kg/ha). BRRI dhan32 at Joydebpur and BRRI dhan31 at Jamalpur received 60 kg P2O5, 30 kg K2O, 20 kg S and 5 kg Zn/ha. Thirty day old seedlings of both the varieties were transplanted in a spacing of 25 cm x 15 cm apart during the mid-July, 2001. The fallow plot was fertilized with 80 kg N, 60 kg P2O5, 40 kg K2O, 20 kg S and 5 kg Zn/ha, nitrogen was applied as urea in three equal splits at 15, 30 and 45 DAT. Seeds of mustard ( BARI Shrisha-11) were sown on November 30, 2001 at Joydebpur and BARI Sarisha-8 at Jamalpur. Fertilizers @ 120-80-60-40, 80-60-40-40-40 and 40-40-20-40 kg N, P2O5, K2O, and S/ha were used as treatments for mustard in both the locations. Fertilizer sources were urea, triple super phosphate, muriate of potash and gypsum.Geren biomass yield and grain yield of rice and mustard were recorded and analyzed.

The results of the study imply that 80 kg N/ha was required to be added for T. Aman rice when no green manuring crop was grown and incorporated into the soil whereas, only 40 kg N/ha was needed when dhaincha /mungbean was grown as green manuring crop.
