Preliminary Yield Trials of Early Seeding Higher Yield and Low Temperature Tolerant Breeding Lines of White Jute(2006)

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Under this experiment, in order to breed early sowing coupled with higher yield of fiber and seeds, three progenies were selected from the diallel crosses for their tolerance to relatively short day and low temperature. These three breeding lines C-2234, C-2236 and C-2281 along with check varieties BJC-7370 and CC-45 were tested at Manikganj. Analysis of variances revealed insignificant differences among the treatments in respect of plant height, base diameter, green weight, stick weight and fiber weight.

Objectives:

To develop short day and low temperature tolerant varieties having better yield of fiber and seed

Methodology:

This experiment was carried out with three progenies (C-2234, C-2236 and C-2281) and two check varieties, BJC-7370 and CC-45 at JAES, Manikganj to study their yield and yield attributes. These progenies were grown in a randomized complete block design with three replications having unit plot size of 2.1m x 3.0m = 6.30 sq. m. At the age of 120 days, data were recorded on plant population, plant height, base diameter, green weight, fiber weight and stick weight. Standard agronomic practices were followed for uniform growth and development.
