The experiment was conducted at Wet Processing Department of Bangladesh Jute Research Institute in 2000 to 2001. Six different designed biodegradable jute geo-textiles were prepared and there biodegradability were tested in six different solvents which are more less present in our Bangladeshi soil. This process was continued for two years and interpreted the results. The results indicated that this type of chemical composite treatments for modification of jute geo-textiles will be increased its lifetime for five to ten years. We were trying to modify jute ribbon mats by 4 different composite treatments were successfully tested as irrigation liner. Finally the technology was transferred through application of design biodegradable jute geo-textiles in the embankment of rural roads in Pakullka Lauhati road and abutment in Delduar Thana of Tangail District by the joint collaboration of BJRI, Ministry of Agriculture, LGED Tangail and European Commission. The modified jute geo-textiles prepared by the scientists of BJRI were successfully applied in the field level.

To optimize the longevity of jute Geo-textile materials (during the year 2000-2001).

i) Treatment of ribbon mats: Modified jute ribbon mats were prepared by 4 different composite treatments like a) rubber, b) composite, c) grease, d) silicate composite treatment. ii) Application of designed biodegradable jute geo-textiles in the rural roads: In order to create and expand the local market of geo-jute produced by the ABC unit of Adamjee Jute Mills Ltd. were successfully used by modification with indigenous chemicals for field testing was selected in Deldura Thana in Tangail district.

Treatment Procedure:

1.Rot proofing: Selected heavy Hessian treated with sulphate of copper, sodium carbonate and acid of chromate using water as solvent by spray technique and then dried. 2. Treatment with bitumen emulsion of specific density: Carbon black pest was prepared with required quantity of volatile oil and then bitumen emulsion was added with pest and stirred. The emulsion was laminated on the modified Hessian cloth by brass manually and dried. 3. Treatments with silicate of specific viscosity: Silicate solution was prepared by adding hot water and stirred according to need and then used on the modified bitumen treated samples manually and dried. 4. Treatment with Ca-base grease composite: Ca-base grease was added with required amount of carbon black and prepared a paste by adding volatile oil. The composite paste was then rubber haphazardly by hand on the modified hessian cloth and completed the rubbing by brass. After rubbing a small amount of carbon black was spread over the located area or full sample and then again rubbed by brass.5. Preparation of horizontal drain:  The whole portion of the drain prepared by hessian cloth was treated with bitumen emulsion composite. The located area i.e. the middle ½ portion of the sample was laminated by grease composite and dried. 6. Preparation of vertical drain: Light wet hessian was laminated by grease composite and dried.

The tensile strength in case of grease rubber composite treated sample is maximum and the sample treat with silicate composite is minimum. The percentage of weight loss of different composite treated samples after two years are different. Samples of tides 1 to 4 in ferrous sulphate solution was lost its weight minimum but it is bellow then 25%. Sample of types 5 to 6 were bellow then 50%. The percentage were loss of the samples immersed in order 5 different solutions were also less then 50%. Fabricated jute ribbon mats were treated with different types of chemicals composites that were mentioned in the experimental section. The modified mats were used as irrigation liner to save loss of water during irrigation in a project. But the products prepared by the chemical composite treatments that have been mentioned in the experimental section were not viable technically.Jute geo-textile prepared by different chemicals composite treatments, which were used in rural roads in Delduar Thana of Tangial District.
