Development of Man-made Fibre Blended Jute Products.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The developed Novotex blended blanket was found softer and more comfortable than of the all-jute blanket. Its thermal conductivity and weaving properties were found superior to cotton and all-jute blankets, as higher the thermal conductivity lower is the heat preserving capacity.

Objectives:

To produce Novotex blended blanket for quality improvement

Methodology:

Blanket is generally made from wool, synthetic or cotton fibres. None of these fibres are available in Bangladesh sufficiently. To produce blankets, these fibres are to be imported or ready-made blankets of synthetic/wool are to be bought from abroad by spending valuable foreign exchange. Novotex blankets can replace these blankets. To produce Novotex blanket (blended) 2 ply of 259 tex (7.5 lbs/spy), jute yarn of BWB jute fibre was taken. The blended yarns of 80% jute and 20% polyester were spun in normal spinning process. Chemically modification, woollenisation, blending , dyeing, finishing and other chemical treatments were done in the Pilot Plant and process development division. The processed yarn was woven into double layer base fabric. The woven fabric was passed through a raising machine to give in typical fleecy look and soft feel. Then the raised fabric was cut and sides were sewn according to the required size. To study the supply physical properties of jute-polyester blended blanket, tests were done in the Testing department and the thermal conductivity was measured in the Physics department. Tests were carried out at standard atmosphere of 65% relative humidity (RH) and temperature of 20 degree centigrade.
