Effectiveness of Fungicides in Controlling Botrytis Blight of Mari Gold

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The experiment was conducted in the field of Plant Pathology, BARI, Joydebpur to evaluate the efficacy of fungicides in controlling Botrytis blight of marigold during 2009-2010 cropping season. Inka hybrid variety consisting of two colour (Yellow and orange) were used in the experiment. There were six treatments. Among the treatments the lowest diseases severity was found in Rovral treated plot followed by Folio gold.

Objectives:

To find out a suitable fungicides for the management of BOTRYTIS BLIGHT OF MARI GOLD

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted in the field of Plant Pathology Division, Joydebpur, Gazipur using a variety Inka with two colour yellow and orange. The unit plot size was 2.5m x 2.5 m, keeping 50cm and 25 cm spacing for row to row and plant to plant distance respectively. Five fungicides namely, Folio gold (0.2%), Edcozeb, (0.2%), Rovral (0.2 %), Iprozin(0.2%), and Bavistin (0.1%) were applied. Spraying was initiated just onset of the disease. A total of three sprays were done at 7 days interval. Split plot design was used. Data were taken on, No of infected flower (%), no of healthy flower (%). disease severity on a scale 0-5 scale. Here, 0 = No spot, 1= upto 10% damage of the flower, 2 = 10.1-25% damage of the flower 3 = 25.1-40% damage of the flower 4 = 40.1-60% damage of the flower 5 = above 60% damaged of the flower. Data was recorded after 10 days of last fungicidal spray. Data were analyzed statistically by computer program MSTAT after following necessary transformation.

Achievement/Findings:

Different fungicides played a significant role (p=0.05) on the control of botrytis grey mold disease in marigold. Two colours of inka variety of marigold showed significantly different reactions with respect to disease severity due to the application of five different fungicides. The fungicide Rovral was found best and equally effective in controlling botrytis blight disease both in the orange and yellow colour flower. Whereas the fungicides Folio gold showed better disease control in yellow Inka though it could not reduce diseases severity in Orange Inka same as yellow Inka. The rest three fungicides showed less effectiveness with respect to diseases control in both coloured Inka varieties. The fungicides Rovral and Folio gold performed better in both the colour with respect to healthy flower production. Yellow Inka produces 14.32 % and 15.36 % healthy flower in case of spraying Rovral and Folio gold. Rovral also gave better reaction in orange colour. From this result it is evident that the fungicide Rovral is most effective in controlling botrytis blight of marigold in the orange and yellow coloured Inka with respect to healthy flower production. However the fungicides Folio gold was also found to be effective in controlling botrytis blight of marigold.
