Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The experiment was conducted in the Laboratory of Industrial Chemistry & Pilot Plant & Processing Division, Bangladesh Jute Research Institute, Dhaka, Bangladesh during the year of 2006 to 2008. This project has been taken to improve flameproofing property of jute fabrics. Jute fabrics were treated with Di-Ammonium Hydrogen Phosphate by various concentrations under certain condition. It was found that desized jute fabric gives the best flame proofed(completely resistance to both after flaming and after glowing)than the sized jute fabrics.

Objectives:

To develop suitable process for imparting desirable flame proof finishes to jute fabrics using some locally produces environment friendly and economically viable.

Methodology:

CBC jute fabric was collected from the local market. Jute Hessian of 13.8 pick/inch, 15.4 end/inch, 13 sample specimens of 16inchs wide and 70-inch length were prepared from the above mentioned. Commercial grade Di-ammonium Hydrogen phosphate [(NH4)2HPO4], Diastage, Lissapol In this experiment we used two different types of machine. These are Padding machine, Heat setting machine. In this work, we had been used two types of fabrics, these are: 1. Sized 2. Desized One is control sample. Six samples were treated with commercial grade Di-ammonium hydrogen phosphate solution (20%, 25%, 30%, 35%, 40% & 45%) in a mini-padding machine. Desized jute fabrics were treated with commercial grade Di-ammonium hydrogen phosphate solution (20%, 25%, 30%, 35%, 40% & 45%) in a mini-padding machine. Jute fabrics (six samples) were prepared for desizing: Desizing was done with 2-3 gm/lit, diaster at temperature of 500-600c for 45 minutes Liquor pick-up: The liquor pick up was determined each of the samples.The liquor pick up of the treatment process was determined by weighting the samples before & after padding according to the following formula; Liquor pick up = (weight after padding- weight before padding) X 100/weight before padding Tensile strength: the tensile strength of the treated samples was measured by the standard method . Room temperature maintained as follows: Temp= 200±20c, Humidity=65% ± 2%. Flame test: The treated jute fabrics were tested for fire-proofing by measuring the ‘after flame’ and ‘afterglow’ period and ‘char length’under vertical Bunsen burner flame.
