Determination of Fungicidal Spray Schedule in Controlling Purple Blotch of Onion

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

An experiment was conducted with a view to develop a spray schedule in controlling purple blotch of onion. There were eight treatments. Design was RCB with 3 replication. Significantly lower disease severity and higher yield were recorded by T₆ (Rovral + Secure + Antracol + Dithane M-45).

Objectives:

To select suitable spray schedule against the disease.

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted in the field of plant pathology, BARI, Joydebpur, Gazipur, during winter 2009-2010 by using the seedlings of variety BARI piaz-1. Plot size was 2.5m x 2.0 m. There were eight treatments including control. The treatments were as follows T₁ = Rovral (Iprodion) @ 0.2% + Ridomil + Rovral + Ridomil (Mancozeb + Metalaxyl) @0.2% T₂ = Rovral + Antracol + Rovral + Dithane M-45 (Mancozeb) @ 0.2% T₃ = Evaral (Iprodion) @ 0.2% + Ridomil + Evaral + Ridomil T₄ = Evaral + Antracol + Evaral + Dithane M-45 T₅ = Rovral + Score (Diphenoconazole) @0.1% + Antracol + Dithane M-45 T₆ = Rovral + Secure (Mancozeb + Phenamidon) @ 0.2%+ Antracol + Dithane M-45 T₇ = Rovral + Bavistin + Rovral + Bavistin (Carbandazim)@ 0.1% T₈ = Control The experimental design was RCB with three replication. A total of four spays were done with 10 days interval beginning from the first appearance of the disease symptom. Data were taken on disease score, plant height (cm), number of leaf per plant, bulb length (cm), bulb dia (cm), bulb weight (gm) and plot yield (kg). Data were analyzed statistically.

Achievement/Findings:

Results revealed that there were no significant variation among the spray schedules in most of the parameters. Regarding disease severity, significantly lower disease severity (1.3 at 0-5 scale) was resulted by T₆ (Rov + Secure + Antracal + Dithane M-45) but it gave statistically insignificant with all the rest treatment except T₈ (control). The treatment T₆ again showed better performance in producing higher yield and gave statistically similar to T₁ (Rovral + Ridomil + Rovral + Ridomil), T₅ (Rovral + Score + Antracol + Dithane M-45) and T₇ (Rovral + Bavistin + Rovral + Bavistin).
