To Establish a Standard for Jute Carpet for Achievement of Its Market Potentiality Against Its Competitions (part-1)

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The present study was made on a single variety of carpet having pile yarn of natural white jute fiber. It is observed that three parameters of resiliency i.e. recovery percentage of thickness, compression and work maintained co-variant nature among themselves while they were contravention with the pile height of the carpet.

Objectives:

To establish a standard for jute carpet to enhance its market potentiality

Methodology:

The carpet sample are prepared from FURAF KARNAFULLY CARPET Factory, Chittagong with constructional parameters 9 dent 14 reeds, pile height 13 mm and 126X2 pile matrix i.e. 126 tufts per square inch. Pile yarn used is of white natural jute fiber with 2 piles each of coul= 7.5 lbs/spy. Except carpet of white natural jute fiber pile yarn, other varieties of carpet are studied. Experiment was done following the B.S. standard British method BS 4098:1967.

Achievement/Findings:

The experiment was done with a single variety of carpet having pile yarn of Natural white jute fiber. The constructional parameters are 9 dent, 14 reeds, pile height 13 mm and 126X2 pile matrix i.e. 126 tufts per square inch. Authentic interpretation needs extensive work on the same variety with different constructional parameters. However, it is observed from the data that similar to Tossa Natural Carpet white Natural carpet too follows the truth (fact) that higher is the pile height of the carpet, lower is the resiliency it imparts. In other words, higher is the pile height, lower is the resiliency imparted by the carpet. Apparently it seems that white jute fiber pile yarn is less stiff than tossa jute fiber pile yarn carpet. From the statistical analysis of the data it is found that CV% lies from 3% to 13% which bears the testimony to the authenticity of the experiment done.
