Tuber Crops Research Centre (TCRC), BARI has collecting and maintaining a large number of sweet potato germplasm from home and abroad to see their performance in respect of yield and quality and also used in future breeding program. A total of 310 accessions are maintaining as germplasm.

To maintain the Sweet Potato germplasm for future use.

At present TCRC is maintaining 310 accessions of sweet potato in the field gene bank. The field gene bank is generally maintained by re-establishing the vines of sweet potato twice in a year using cutting directly from the old field in a propagation nursery. Plot size of each accession was 1.0 x 1.5 m, 10 cutting were evenly spaced in a plot. The whole field was planted only in alternate rows, leaving a row vacant to reduce the chances of vine intermingling among the accessions
