Collection of Samples and to Find Out the Different Parameters of Jute Yarn and Jute Fibers.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Yarns of different counts i.e. 7.24, 8.16 and 7.32 lb/spindle collected from Adamjee Jute Mills Limited, Dhaka Jute Mill limited and Experimental Mills of BJRI from fibers of BWB grade and Dhabdhabey pat respectively were investigated upon. Breaking strengths, average mass, diameter measured by microscopic method and air flow method, twist per inch of yarns and number, average length and diameter of fibers of the corresponding yarns were also measured in the Physics and testing Division during 1981 at standard temperature and humidity conditions. Mass of yarn at fracture zone was compared to the mass of the same yarn at other than fracture zone. Yarn irregularity was evident from calculating mass variation by weighing 150 pieces of 1 inch length of the yarns. Fibers which were processed in Adamjee and Dhaka jute Mills were found to be coarser and more extensible than BWB fiber used for the Experimental Mills of BJRI. Extension of break of Dhobdhobey pat and the quality ratio of the corresponding yarn were found to be the maximum.

Objectives:

1. To predicts the strength characteristics of jute yarn from the physical properties of the fiber from which the yarn is spun and

2. To relate the fiber strength characteristics to the commercial grades of fiber.

Methodology:

Samples of different counts of yarn were collected from Adamjee Jute Mills Limited, Dhaka Jute Mills Limited and Experimental Jute Mills of BJRI. Specimen of yarn 20 inches long were selected and breaking strength was measured using Good Brand tensile tester. After tensile test each test specimen were weighted and average mass found. The diameter ay different places along the length of the test were then determined with the help of Projection Microscope. For mass measurement 1 inch length from the tip of each of the two broken ends of a test specimen of yarn was cut and weighed on the electrical balance. 100 yard hanks of yarn taken from a sample were weighed to determine the grist and the result was expressed in pounds per spindle of 14,400 yds. The twist of the yarn was measured by using Herbert Stein twist tester. Fiber length and diameter were measured by projection microscope. The yarn irregularity of 150 pieces of 1 inch length of the yarn were cut and weighed in a sensitive balance and mass variations are being calculated.

Achievement/Findings:

It was found from the result that, the average diameter of the fibers sample number 3 is less than those of the other two. In fact sample number 1 and 2 are prepared from different grades of jute whereas sample number 3 prepared from BWB. Extension at break for sample number 1 and 2 are nearly same and higher than sample number 3. But the extension at break for sample number 4 is the highest. The quality ratios of all the samples are satisfactory but in this case also the sample number 4 has the highest quality ratio.
