Seven potato varieties were studied at Patuakhali, Noakhali, Satkhira and Cox`s bazar during 2007-08 for their suitability under saline areas. Varieties Asterix, Diamant, Provento and Lady Rosetta seemed to be promising for saline areas.

To select varieties suitable for saline areas.

The experiment was conducted in farmer’s field of Patuakhali, Noakhali, Satkhira and Cox’s bazar saline area during the winter season of 2007-08. Seven potato varieties were included in the study. The experimental design was RCBD with 3 dispersed replications. The unit plot size was 5.4 m2. Fertilizers were applied @ 325-220-250 kg/ha of urea, TSP and MP respectively. At Noakhali and Cox’s bazar all fertilizers were applied as basal at the time of final land preparation and mulching was done after planting of tuber. At Patuakhali, 100%TSP and MP and 50% of urea was applied as basal and remaining 50% urea was top dressed at 35 DAP. Whole tubers were planted with a spacing of 60 cm X 25 cm. Intercultural operations were done as per TCRC recommendation. The crop was harvested at maturity.
