Optimize the Rot Proofing Process for Jute Fabric in Pilot Scale (in 2004-2005).

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The experiment was conducted during the year 2004-2005 at Bangladesh Jute Research Institute Dhaka, Jute Waste Processing Department to optimize the rot proofing process.To assess of nature and degree of the degradation of nursery pot tested with composed for plantation of different term periods was carried out. Jute fabric were treated with various percentage of solutions ( 3%, 4%, 5%, 6%, 7% and 8%) of the rot-proofing agent, the treated fabrics were tested and to optimize the rot proofing Jute fabrics which are being used as nursery pot for seeding. The treated hessian containing more than 0.8% copper solution is suitable for making nursery pot to be used in seedling.

Objectives:

To offer technological processing techniques and methods to nursery pot users for plantation of long time duration (One year).

Methodology:

Gray hessian fabrics were treated with difference percentage of solutions, viz. 3%, 4%, 5%, 6%, 7% and 8% by mini padding machine. Another gray hessian fabrics were treated with the same percentage solution of copper sulphate followed by treatment with different percentage Sodium carbonate solution, viz. 1%, 1.5%, 2%, 2.5%, 3%, 3.5% and Sodium Alginate (gum). Sodium Alginate was another chemical reagent, which added in different weights, such as 0.25 g, 0.50g, 0.75g, 1.0 g, 1.25 g, 1.50g. The fabrics were then dried in heat setting machine rot proofing hessian was evaluated by determination of copper contain and tensile strength. Then nursery pot was prepared for seeding.

Achievement/Findings:

Three kinds of seeds were showed in different nursery pot.one controlled and others were treated pots of different percentage of copper solutions, viz. 3%, 4%, 5%, 6%, 7% and 8%.It was found that jute pots loss its strength within 15 days but the Copper treated nursery pot continue up to 9 months.The hessian treated with gum grows fungi and micro-organisms rapidly and degrades quickly. But the hessian treated with copper solutions increases longevity of the nursery pot. This experiment proves that hessian treated with 8% copper solutions increases the longevity of the nursery pot for 9 months.
