Performance of Jute Carpet with Pile Yarn Produced by Blending Jute Fiber with Man Made Fiber

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The work was done with carpet made of pile yarn prepared by blending jute with acrylic. From the study it is found that the resiliency of jute/acrylic blended (90:10) carpet that all the three parameters i.e. percentage of (a) thickness recovery (b) compression recovery (c) work of recovery are much higher than the corresponding values of 100% Tossa jute fiber pile yarn carpet.

Objectives:

To study the performance of the jute carpet as well as that of man made fibers

Methodology:

The experiment was done with carpet made of pile yarn prepared by blending jute with acrylic in the ratio jute: Acrylic=90%: 10%. This pile yarn was manufactured in Mechanical Processing Division of BJRI. The count of the pile yarn is 15 lbs/spy of two ply i.e. each single pile is of count 7.5 lbs/spy with this pile yarn the carpet is manufactured in “FURAT KARANFULLY CARPET FACTORY? IN Chittagong in co-operation with Research Quality Control Director of BJMC.

Achievement/Findings:

It is observed from the data that three parameters of resilience like percentage of (a) thickness recovery, (b) compression recovery (c) work of recovery are even higher than 100% Tossa jute fibre pile yarn carpet of 9-10 mm pile height of 9 dents & 15 reeds as structural parameters. This sort of Tossa natural jute pile yarn carpet yields maximum value of thickness recovery as 89 to 90% while the present carpet of 10% acrylic and 90% jute blended pile yarn yields 95:5% thickness recoveries. Similarly percentage compression recovery and work recovery are 81.3% and 30% respectively while the same value for tossa natural colour pile yarn carpet are 63 to 67% and 19 to 23% respectively. The work of compression and work of recovery values are also higher than the corresponding values of Tossa natural fibre pile yarn carpet. From the statistical analysis it is observed that the CV% values lies in between 2.7 to 11% of the data of performance studies which is very fair and within the acceptable range. This proves the authenticity of the performance study.
