Three panikachu lines were evaluated to identify suitable ones for high rhizome yield and quality. PK-103 produced the highest yield (21.87 t/ha) of rhizome, which gave higher yield than that of check. PK-103 has been selected to apply for release as a variety .

To release as a variety of rhizome producing panikachu lines

The experiment was laid out at Joydebpur, Jessore, Bogra, Jamalpur and Pahartali during 2004-05 to 2006-07. The unit plot size was 3.0 x 4.5 m and spacing was 60 x 45 cm replicated three times. The harvesting of stolon was started from last week of April and was continued up to September 2007. The rhizome was harvested on September 07-15, 2007. The crop was fertilized at the rate of 15 tons of cow dung, 150 kg of urea, 125 kg of TSP and 175 kg of MP per hectare. Data was recorded from 10 randomly selected plants. The yield per plot was recorded and based on that per hectare yield was calculated. Data were analyzed using Mstat-C program.
