Farmers Participatory Validation of Wet-seeding Using Drum Seeder.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Objective of this study was to Farmers participatory validation of wet-seeding using drum seeder. The farmers’ participatory trial was conducted to validate the performance of wet-seeding using ‘Drum seeder’ at Chuadanga Rice –Wheat research site of BRRI. Growth duration of BRRI dhan28 was reduced by 8 days under WS compared to transplanting. Grain yield obtained from WS and two nearby plots of two different farmers (F1 and F2). On an average, WS produced 33% (6.5 t/ha) higher grain yield than transplanting (4.88 t/ha). Twenty percent higher grain yield for wet-seeding using drum seeder was also obtained at Kapasia FSR&D site.

Objectives:

Methodology:

The benefit of alternative establishment method direct-wet seeding had been reported by researchers and extension workers. The farmers’ participatory trial was conducted to validate the performance of wet-seeding using ‘Drum seeder’ at Chuadanga Rice –Wheat research site of BRRI. On an average, fertilizer rate of 152-33-50-20-5 Kg/ha N, P, K, S & Zn was applied for wet seeding and for traditional transplanting farmers applied 168-28-33-18-5 kg of N, P, K, S & Zn per hectare. In wet-seeding N was applied by the use of LCC. BRRI dhan28 was used by farmers both for wet seeding and transplanting.
