Advanced Yield Trial of Some Short Day and Low Temperature Tolerant Breeding Lines of Tossa Jute (2003)

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The experiment was carried out in Manikganj,Faridpur and Rangpur in 2003.The breeding line Ped-7/95 gave the best performance at Faridpur(3.77t/ha) stations in respect of fiber yield among the tested lines.Highest plant population was also observed in O-9897(3.56L/ha) at Faridpur station.

Objectives:

1.To develop early sowing tossa jute to search a line which is short day and low temperature loving

2.To assess their yield performance in low temperature tolerance under different agro-ecological condition

Methodology:

The materials Acc-4311(pure line),Ped-11/95-2(single cross) and Ped-7/95(single cross) were tested previously and found better than O-9897 in respect of short day and low temperature tolerant lines of tossa jute.Check O-9897 and OM-1 were used and sown in the Manikganj,Faridpur and Rangpur stations of BJRI at 07-03-2003 .The experiment was laid out in RCBD with three replications having 4.5m X 3.0m plot size. Standard agricultural and agronomic practices were followed.The crop were harvested 120 days after sowing and collecting necessary data(Plant Population,Plant Height,Base Diameter,Fibre Yield Stick Yield and flowering at 60,90 days a of sowing).
