On Farm Trails of Advanced Lines of Tossa Jute(c.olitorius L.)under Early Sowing

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The experiment were undertaken in thirty plots at Manikganj,Rangpur,Faridpur,Monirampur,Kishoreganj and Chandina stations of BJRI at 2001 following RCBD. At farmer’s condition the line O-72 gave a little bit higher yield than the check O-9897 and at regional stations O-72 also gave higher fibre yield than the check O-9897. Results indicated that percent increases in fibre yield over check were 1.77, 4.59, 12.34, 10.00 and 21.24 in Chandina, Manirampur, Rangpur, Manikganj and Kishroeganj respectively and 9.84% increase in yield over control variety was observed as pooled mean. The tested variety O-72 was evaluated by the member of the Field Evaluation Team of NSB and was recommended by the technical committee of NSB for release.

Objectives:

To evaluate the yield of an advanced lines (O-72)at farmers field in different regions as well as on stations to evaluate adaptability of advanced lines (O-72)at farmers field in different regions as well as on stations

Methodology:

One advanced line, O-72 obtained from back cross {(O-9897 x O-2012) X O-9897} was tested at farmer’s plots and regional station under early sowing condition. The variety O-9897 was used as check. Each plot of 2.5 dec. was used for O-72 and O-9897 respectively. The seeds of both varieties will be sown on 15th March. Equal quality of seed of the varieties would be sown and equal number of plants would be maintained for the varieties. Intercultural operation would be done in time simultaneously for whole plots as per recommendation.The plots must be located preferably at roadside. The sown plots will be harvested 120 days sowing. Necessary data (plant population,plant height and fiber yield) were recorded.

Achievement/Findings:

The advanced line O-72 gave higher yield than the check O-9897 in all tested sites. Pooled mean results on fiber yield (t/ha) over station indicated that the tested variety O-72(2.87 t/ha) gave 5.51 percent higher yield than O-9897 (2.73 t/ha). At regional station, O-72 also gave higher fiber yield (2.62 t/ha) than the check O-9897 (2.36 t/ha). The O-72 gave 10.54% higher yield compared to O-9897.The tested line O-72was evaluated by the member of Field Evaluation Team of NSB and was recommended technical committee of NSB for releasing and released as variety named BJRI tossa jute-4(O-72)
