Sceening for Abiotic( Short Day and Low Temperature) and Biotic(mite) Tolerant Genotypes of Tossa Jute

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The experiment was carried out in CRF,Manikganj and Rangpur in 2001. Similar response with lower yield was also observed at Rangpur station. Fiber yield of all the stations including controls were lower at Manimganj station and this may be due to its poor plant population. Location effect on fibre yield was highly significant. Individual plants were selected from each line in respect of their response to short day and low temperature and 41 Acc. got from 1st sowing and 40 from 2nd sowing on the basis of their criteria.

Objectives:

1.To isolate short day and low temperature tolerance genotypes of tossa jute

2.To isolate mite tolerance genotypes of tossa jute

3.To assess their yield performance in under different agro-ecological condition.

Methodology:

Seventy-four germplasms collected from gene bank were sown at 26-02-2001 and 22-04-2001 in CRF,Manikganj and Rangpur for searching short day and low temperature tolerant lines of tossa jute. Individual plants were selected from each line in respect of their response to short day and low temperature.The experiment was laid out in RCBD with three replications having 2.1m X 3.0m plot size. Standard agricultural and agronomic practices were followed.The crop were harvested 120 days after sowing and collecting necessary data(Plant Population,Plant Height,Base Diameter,Fiber Yield and Stick Yield)
